How to Fix iTunes error

Nov 9, 2010 05:36 PM

When updating, downgrading or simply restoring your iPhone/iPod Touch you may receive an error that states "iPhone/iPod cannot be restored".It's very frustrating and I should know after trying to restore more than 10 times.I found a way!

Download Umbrella by TinyUmbrella

Go to Jailbreakandunlock.com/downloads and download Umbrella Mac/Windows.I suggest you use Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome to download it.After you download it and install it open iTunes.

Open Umbrella and keep iTunes open as well.Click on "Run TSS Server" in Umbrella and wait 30 seconds.Next, put your device in "DFU mode" and connect it to iTunes. If you're not sure on how to do this just hold the power button and home button until it shuts off and the iTunes logo appears.

You should be able to restore now without a problem.Go ahead and restore to the firmware of your choice.Remember that you may not be able to downgrade if you haven't saved your SHSH blobs. If you're not sure what that is then you probably didn't.

Tips

  • If it presents you with an error gain just keep trying. It took me a couple of tries. When putting your device in "DFU mode" you may want to try two different ways if one fails. The other way is to unplug your device and hold the home button and then replug your device while holding the button until iTunes recognizes the device in "DFU mode".
  • I suggest using iTunes 9.2 as this is the version I used to restore.iTunes is always being updated and so you won't find it on their website. You'll need to Google "iTunes 9.2 File hippo".Type those words in exactly as you see it without any commas. When the search appears look for the link that appears as filehippo.com/whatever......Many of the results might say Filehippo or iTunes 9.2 but you have to check the link location,
